Catholic Formation is a Life-Long Process
St. Joseph's Adult Ministry Offers Broad Array of Programs to Enhance Faith

Adult Formation at St. Joseph’s in Wauwatosa seeks to invite and enable ongoing conversion to Jesus and holiness of life, to promote and support active membership in the Church, and to call and prepare adults to act as disciples in mission to the world – all for the glory of God. We seek to do this through a variety of opportunities, including those that are systematic, occasional, individual, community, organized, and spontaneous - aimed at adults of all ages, vocations, and backgrounds. Opportunities are ever-changing and expanding. "I tell you, look up and see the fields ripe for the harvest" (Jn 4:35).

Current Programs of Adult Ministry at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wauwatosa:

Lolek
A group for Catholics age 18-35

  • The Lolek group's goal is to provide opportunities to learn more about the Catholic faith and how it can be applied to the spiritual, moral, social and political issues that young adults face. Additionally, Lolek provides an opportunity for prayer, celebration of the sacraments, fellowship and faith sharing with other Christians in a Catholic environment.
  • Lolek meets regularly on the second and fourth Tuesday evenings of the month for Eucharistic Adoration (with sacrament of Reconciliation available), speaker presentation, and fellowship.
  • Throughout the month there are varied activities such as Bible Studies, game nights, movie nights, prayer circles; and throughout the year there events like 3-on-3 basketball tournaments, visits to Theology on Tap, All Saints' Party, travels to Catholic places and events, etc. Young Adult Catholics from all over the greater Milwaukee area regularly attend.
  • See the Lolek web site for more information.
  • Read about Lolek in an article in Wauwatosa NOW.

Scripture Study
There are several small groups that meet on a regular basis to study Scripture. Many have been established for years, and they are always happy to welcome newcomers. Books are selected from the Old and New Testaments to study and discuss. For more information, or to become involved, contact Peter Andrastek.

Living Stones Groups
Small groups of varying sizes that meet regularly to reflect on scripture, study topics of faith and pray.

Adult Confirmation
Adult Confirmation provides the opportunity for persons of post-high school age to prepare for the reception of the sacrament of Confirmation. This is usually held as a Quad parish project.

Marriage and Family Enrichment
Addresses the needs of couples and families in faith and life issues.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the process established by the Church for individuals to become Catholic and receive the sacraments of initiation. This initiation process also involves a parish community experiencing a renewal of faith as it prepares and welcomes new members into the Church. Centered on fostering a deep relationship with Jesus and the Church He founded, this journey takes place through distinct stages over a period of time suitable to bring about a thorough catechesis, experience of parish life, and commitment to the moral and liturgical life of the Church. If you or someone you know is interested in learning more about becoming Catholic, please contact Peter Andrastek.

Welcome Home!
A process of welcoming and updating for those who wish to return to active participation in the Catholic community after time away.

Parent Preparation for Infant Baptism
All parents requesting Baptism for their child must complete a Baptism preparation session, held on a bi-monthly basis. Parents should register for Baptism and complete this preparation session prior to the birth of their child. To register for preparation and celebration of this sacrament, please contact St. Joseph Congregation Parish Center Office.

SJSM Book Club
St. Mary's - St. Joe's Book Club is an ongoing program of Adult Catholic Formation. We read Catholic Classics (and Classics-to-be) for spiritual edification and instruction, as well as for catechetical and theological formation. We read the chosen book at a do-able pace, and then discuss via “Google-group,” which allows participants to communicate via email or going directly to the group. This is a great way for those of us who are very busy to be able to participate. You can contribute as much or little as you desire. There is also an “in person” group option for discussion. For more information, and to join, contact Peter Andrastek.

Family Holy Hour
“Let the children come to me …” said Jesus to His disciples, as the children were trying to approach Him. Our children have a profound hunger for Our Lord, and a simplicity that disposes them to really profound faith, so long as we foster what God has given them. To do this, once a quarter, on a Friday evening, St. Joseph’s provides a Family Holy Hour of Eucharistic Adoration for families, followed by social time in the hall. For more information, contact Peter Andrastek.

Mom’s Group
The Catholic Mom’s Group meets on a regular basis in the St. Joseph parish center, and is a place where Catholic moms can help Catholic moms to become better Catholic moms. There’s discussion, faith sharing, sometimes a book is read and discussed together, prayer, and just good socialization. Young children are welcome to come, as this also serves as a play group. The group meets the first and third Wednesday of the month, from 9:30-10:45 a.m. For more information, contact Peter Andrastek.

For more information on any of the above, contact the Adult Ministry Office at 414-771-4626 ext. 110.
