St. Joseph Table and
Food Pantry Collections

The tradition of the St. Joseph Table involves families preparing tables of food to be shared with the less fortunate in the community.

In the spirit of this tradition, we will be collecting food to distribute to community the St. Rose food pantry. Food will be collected at Masses on March 14 and 15, and at our St. Joseph Day meal on March 19.

The following are the current needs of the food pantry. Please consider donating one or more of the following:

  • Cereal
  • Mac-n-Cheese
  • Canned Fruit
  • Canned Vegetables
  • Pasta Sauce
  • Canned Beef-a-Roni
  • Canned Tuna

The tradition of the “St. Joseph Table” of food (“la tavala di San Giuseppe”) has its origins in Sicily. Legends from the Middle Ages attributed the end of a devastating drought to a prayer-devotion that the Sicilian people made to St. Joseph. This celebration is a symbolic “thank you” and renewal of the devotion to St. Joseph. It is a shared celebration where the riches of food are given as alms to the poor.
